The crows pulled up all our green beans.

It’s getting quite silly at this point. They pulled up all our spinach seedlings and then nearly all the onion bulbs and most of the carrots when we did our very first direct-sow planting. The Old Man (our semi-deaf neighbor who’s had his plots for longer than I’ve been alive, I think) says the birds think the little sprouts in the ground are bugs and larvae, so they scratch and pick over the soil. Ugh.

Maybe don’t do seeds in the ground anymore, and stick with transplanting. At least bigger plants can’t be mistaken for larvae … Unless these are really dumb and mean crows.

In the meantime, must figure out what to do with the space where the beans used to be.
